E major: Key Signature, Scale and Chords

Circle of fifths with E major (4 ♯): chords of the key highlighted on the wheel

E major has 4 ♯ (F#, C#, G#, D#) in its key signature.

The E major scale is: E F# G# A B C# D# E.

The diatonic chords are E (I), F#m (ii), G#m (iii), A (IV), B (V), C#m (vi) and D#dim (vii°). The main functions are E (tonic), A (subdominant) and B (dominant).

The relative minor is C# minor. In the circle of fifths, A major (a fifth lower) and B major (a fifth higher) sit right next to E major.

E major is a core key on the guitar because the low E string rings along as an open string. Vivaldi's "Spring" from "The Four Seasons" is in E major.
